My plan for this blog is to discuss the issues faced by Web developers. Like many subjects I think a huge amount of nonsense is published about Web development – I sincerely hope not to add to that mountain but to highlight some of the issues that concern me and at the same time to promote discussion about best practice for the job I really enjoy… I’ll also try not to rant (too much).
Over the years I’ve worked on a variety of projects from Content Management Systems to award winning online educational resources. I’m committed to developing sites that adhere to Web standards and are accessible to all and will shamelessly evangelise about the importance of:
- Web standards
- Ethical Search Engine Optimisation practices
In addition to my day job, I teach on the Diploma in Web Design and Development for Birkbeck, University of London. The Diploma focuses on Web standards and accessibility and we encourage our students to approach their work with these issues uppermost in their minds.
I also do a lot of development work outside of my day job on various personal projects and for charities on a voluntary basis.
